That seems to no longer be the case, but Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes may be hiding a connection between Noa and Caesar. Noa was previously thought to be Cornelius, Caesar's last surviving family member. Exactly where Noa's journey leads remains to be seen.

This transition is just one of Planet of the Apes 4's exciting prospects as Noa ventures out into the wider world only to come across an ape tyrant who bans the teachings of Caesar. The core premise of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and the teaser trailer solidify the transition of the franchise between Caesar's story and Noa's. As of the end of War for the Planet of the Apes, Caesar managed to lead Cornelius and the rest of the apes to an oasis, dying shortly after securing their safety. Cornelius being the last surviving member of Caesar's family after the third film's tragic opening was a big aspect of the latter's personal journey as he sought a safer home for his son and the rest of his tribe.

Despite the ending of War for the Planet of the Apes, the main character in the sequel is apparently not Cornelius.
